We will walk through the historic town of Windsor, nestled on the river Thames. A spot of lunch is a great way to rest on this day excursion before visiting Runnymede. I will make a lunch reservation at a prime riverside location.
In 1215, King John came here to meet angry church leaders and land barons. They believed the taxes to fund the war in France were too high. On 15th June, King John signed the Magna Carter (great charter) of Liberty, enshrining people’s rights into law. This milestone of individual rights and freedoms has provided inspiration for many important constitutional documents such as the 1791 United States bill of rights.
While here in Runnymede we will learn about the history of the Magna Carta, walk through the meadow to see the stunning Jurors memorial which was unveiled on the 800th anniversary in 2015. Also there is the John F Kennedy memorial which is just as inspiring.
